A Soldato's Diary

Welcome, Alberto Squarcialupi, to Italy's Royal 10th Army! As you step onto the battlefield for the first time, you are met with a sense of trepidation and excitement. You have trained for this moment, and you know that your skills and determination will be put to the test.

The Supreme Command has given orders for our army to launch an invasion on Egyptian soil in just a few days. This will be a pivotal moment in the North African campaign, and the success or failure of our mission will depend on the courage and skill of every soldier on the front lines.

As you prepare for your first action, you can feel the weight of history on your shoulders. Will you rise to the challenge, become a true lion on the desert front, and fight with honor and valor to represent your country on the battlefield?

- 1940

oh MAN
this was a lot of fun :)

Please finish this
a full game would be sick

(+1)

It’s finished actually, files are gone with the corruption of my old computer so Alberto’s African chapter ends here.

But the Squarcialupi story lives on in a future project I’m developing :>

shame the files are gone :(

Might see...

A fine game. I would love to see more of a Medal of Honor Allied Assault / Frontline weapon damage model or Hidden and Dangerous 1 and 2, since the game has the potential to be really fun with the Italian bolt rifle, but on the other hand the MP40 is terrible. I would not mind seeing heavy influence / inspiration to "kinda" remake all of the named games. I know it is hard work. The main menu sounds are great. In-game is maybe meh. I suddenly get reminded by Day of Defeat on GoldSouce. I would not try to mimick the GoldSource gameplay since everyone can use modding tools to make maps, and it is not enough differentiation, if that is the word.

TLDR bolt rifle is great. MP40 is too weak and spread undefinable. The game basis / engine could be great for many future projects. So far, either a 5 or 6 out of 10 (when 5 is average).

Thanks for your comment! We greatly appreciate the detailed review, and will see if changes need to be made for the next update.

The MP40 is considered overpowered by most players due to it's fast one-tap ability to the head, but we will do more research about it to make sure it's a good gun for everyone.

The engine is a customized version of an old game engine from 2005 called FPS Creator, it could have had some GoldSource vibes left in it, we'll change that too

Wait this is just a demo?

Always has been *bang*

Jokes aside, we weren't able to deliver the full product on time because of a few reasons, but that doesn't mean we intend to leave it abandoned ;)

One day, Alberto's journey will be complete. Aspettiamo, amico

(1 edit)

try adding systemmemorycapoff=1 and change dividetexturesize=2 in the game's setup.ini file

The setting is well done. Reminded me of sandstorms in my many years over in Iraq and surrounding area.

It's a decent first person shooter. I would make better use of the Italian soldier theme though. If I hadn't read that I was playing as an Italian soldier I could have imagined myself to be almost any nationality. Maybe have some Italian dialogue?

I beat the demo on my second try. The notebook does a good job of showing the controls and objectives.

I didn't encounter any game-breaking issues, but there are some things I would recommend fixing/improving:

- The player seems to get snagged on objects a lot, especially while jumping.

- Jumping up a ladder felt awkward, so I would recommend just moving forward or maybe pressing F to climb a ladder.

Hi there! Thank you so much for the quick review of the game! I will definitely take your suggestions into consideration, those are very good ideas.
Please stay tuned for some neat updates! :D
